What is Zentangle?

Zentangle is an empowering art form developed by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas. Artists use basic strokes and simple steps (called “The Zentangle Method”) to create complex, non-representational art. At the core of the Zentangle method is the philosophy of “no mistakes.” As the art is abstract and not predetermined, artists are encouraged to turn ‘oops’ into opportunity.

The motto of Zentangle is ‘everything is possible, one step at a time’. Students frequently express doubt in their ability to create art as beautiful as the examples they have seen.  However, by using the Zentangle Method, and following the Eight Steps, they do create their own, uniquely beautiful works of art.  The result of practicing Zentangle is striking: improved morale, self-confidence and mental health,.

About Certified Zentangle Teachers (CZTs)

Certified Zentangle Teacher (CST) is a practitioner of the Zentangle Method who can teach students tangles and the Zentangle Method. To teach classes, a potential teacher must take the extensive training course offered by Zentangle HQ. This course ensures the teacher is familiar with not only the art and techniques used in Tangling but also deeply understands the principles and philosophy of the practice.
